Rules

All play will be governed by FIFA Laws of the Game with the following modifications:

  1. Teams. Male players must be over 30 years old. Female players may begin playing at 16 years old as long as a parent/guardian is present at all games. A waiver must be signed on her behalf.
  2. Number of players on the field.  Each team shall field 6 male players and 5 female players. The minimum number of female players needed to play a game is 3.
  3. Borrowing Players. However, if a team does not have enough players to complete 11v11 players on the field, that team may borrow players from other teams. Reps will reach an agreement on the use of borrowed players before the game.
  4. Team Colors. If two teams' jerseys are the same color, the home team must change colors.
  5. PKs. All penalty kicks are taken by female players.
  6. Slides and Slide Tackles.  Players are not allowed to slide tackle. Keepers, however, are allowed to slide and play the ball on the floor to get the ball, as long as the slide is performed entirely inside the penalty area.
  7. Red Cards. Players who are sent off for fouls or misconduct (red card) are not eligible to play in the following game. Players who are sent off for violent conduct or serious foul play are not eligible to play in the following three games.
  8. Yellow Cards. Players who are cautioned (yellow card) must leave the field and be replaced by a substitute for 15 minutes. If no substitutes are available, the team will play short.
  9. Fees and Liability Release Forms. Each player is responsible for payment of fees to his/her team rep and for signing the liability release form each season prior to being allowed to play.
  10. Team Reps. Each team has two team representatives who are responsible for representing the players', teams', and league's interests. This includes verifying ages, reporting scores, and collecting fees and liability release forms. If both team reps will be absent from a game, they must appoint an alternate to act for them at that game. Players are reminded that they need to go through their team reps in raising any issues about the other team or the game. Serious matters will be resolved by the Disciplinary Committee.
  11. Disciplinary Actions. The league has the authority to discipline any player or team for violating the league rules and the spirit of the league. This may include the decision to caution, reprimand, suspend or place on probation a player or team. Complaints and accusations will be received by the Disciplinary Committee.
  12. Forfeits. A penalty of $25 will be charged if a team does not show up for either a regular season or tournament game, or if games are canceled due to a team's failure to submit fees, rosters, or liability release forms by October 1 (Fall season) or April 1 (Spring season).
  13. Rainouts. Cancellation of games due to rain will only take place if playing will damage the fields. If the rain is light, the game will probably be played. Call the weather field line to find out if the field is closed.
  14. NO DOGS. Referees will not start or continue a game if a team or its fans bring a dog to the field. That team will forfeit the game and be assessed a $25 penalty. In addition to being a league rule, this is a rule of both Community Fields and Seminary, and failure to comply risks our league’s losing access to fields.
